LSU basketball is in the thick of its summer workouts, welcoming a brand new roster and coaching staff to begin a new era with the program.
What Matt McMahon and his staff did in very little time is truly an impressive first accomplishment, holding on to three players from last season and signing four freshmen to the roster as well. But the real nucleus of this group is through the transfer portal and the six players the Tigers have added. Three are following McMahon from Murray State, with plenty of experience from top to bottom.
“Through the transfer portal, there’s a few different things you’re trying to balance,” McMahon told Geaux247 after the moves became official. “You want to bring in good players but when you start with zero, you wanna get older faster. Get some guys who have experience playing at the highest level so that’s been our goal.”
With several weeks until the start of the fall semester, the entire LSU team has been on campus for weeks and are attempting to gel on and off the court. A big part of that will be the leadership and chemistry built that McMahon undoubtedly wants this veteran group of transfers to be at the forefront.
In a recent national piece, 247Sports broke down the impact of each SEC transfer addition and the Tigers have six players who will be foundational pieces for McMahon in year one. With the team now going through workouts and other program building exercises, we decided to add our own spin on each player and their roles for this season.
