Optical illusions are made to make you question reality. Your eyes see one thing and your brain deciphers it as another, but it is very difficult to decode some optical illusions.
Take for example this GIF featuring a spinning woman. The illusion has left the internet divided, with some saying it is rotating clockwise and others saying it moves anti-clockwise.
Optical illusion of a spinning woman
Also known as the Silhouette Illusion, it was originally released in 2003 as a GIF animation of a pirouetting female dancer.
The optical illusion was created by Japanese web designer Nobuyuki Kayahara, and it works by using motion to stimulate your brain.
Some people see the figure spinning clockwise, while others see her moving counterclockwise.
Interestingly, some people may see the figure spin one way and then suddenly go in the opposite direction.
Spinning woman illusion leaves people baffled
The insane brain teaser has left people puzzled.
“I struggled with it quite a lot. It’s mind-boggling,” one user commented.
“If I close my eyes for a couple of seconds and imagine her spinning the other way, then she will spin the other way, another user said.
“Holy shit this was so hard to do but it is so epic,” a third user commented.
A similar optical illusion of a spinning cat had also gone viral.
The gif showed black feline against a white background. The more intriguing part is that you can make it turn in either direction with your mind, if the TikTok user who unloaded the illusion is to be believed.
We are as confused as you are. But here’s how it actually works. Lexi Natoli shared the video on her @yolkfather account and said: “You can change this optical illusion with your mind.”
“At first it looks like the cat is only spinning in one direction, but after you look at it for long enough you will be able to make the cat switch directions with your mind,” she said.
